The introduction of a Smith

Erwin Smith

Hello, my name is Erwin Smith. Some may know me as Nickernator, yet within the AoTTG community Erwin Smith is the name.

I started playing AoTTG back in Summer 2016, pretty fun game. I found myself a community and stayed there for several months. It was a small guild, with just 10 people. Everyone was named after an AoT character, including me as I named myself Erwin Smith instead of my regular gamer tag.

I was always fascinated by the 57th Expedition Beyond the Walls in the anime, it was my favorite part. Going outside and exploring the unknown in a dangerous land full of titans. For a while I played a lot of the Outside the Walls map, but I felt that it was lacking. I created a map and named it: Outside the Walls HUGE. Basically a way larger version of that map. From there I created the Expeditions server to play expeditions with a few friends. That was in March 2017. Now it is March 2019 and this community has 200 members. It grew very fast in summer 2017, but ever since then it has been slowly growing.

Back when I started, expeditions were not much of a part of AoTTG, but now they have become one. Besides this massive expeditions server, I also inspired others with my ideas, and they created their own servers. Trying to ensure that hosting times between expeditions would not conflict was always a difficult aspect, but with some diplomacy and good talking we always came to agreements and helped each other. Even though this expedition server was massive compared to the other servers, that should never be a reason not to help another. You help the weak to become stronger.

My goal was to bring Expeditions in AoTTG, and I can assure you that that exceeded far beyond expectations. Not were expeditions only brought into the game, but the community around it is also a place for people. It's an open and heart-warming community. Doesn't matter what your race, gender, political believes are, you are a scout and you advance together beyond the walls when I say so.

So it's fair enough to say that I have had two years of experience with leading a community, but even at a very young age back in 2011 I started my first one. It was a clan in a game called: MTA:SA. I know that it is irrelevant to AoTTG, but because of my time there, I arrived to AoTTG and without that I would have never been here. The clan was called: The Hunters. Even though I was only 12 back in those days, I still managed to pull it off. Sadly the servers we played on, died one by one, and in the end we were scattered and unable to contact each other anymore. We found some people back, but countless were gone to this day.

I am currently a 3rd year software and information engineering student, in more common language: a programmer. I know a lot about C#, Python, Java and also some Lua. I specialize myself into the security aspect of ICT, so I know even more about that. Besides dedicating my free time to programming and security, I also spend quite a lot of time in the expeditions community, I love to help out people and I am also writing my own fantasy book.

Sadly I am very busy with my life, studies, development, book and with the expeditions community. I doubt I can spare the time to do stuff, but I have experience and wisdom available. If you ever need advice, you know where to find me. And that is on Discord: Erwin Smith#6637. Since I am there everyday, so if its urgent, hit me up there.

I think that's a more than long enough introduction. I can do my whole life story, but ain't nobody got time for that!

Shinzou wo Sasageyo!

Hi Erwin, to our little archive of what has happened in AoTTG for the past ~4 years. Nice to finally meet you! I've heard quite a lot about you! Oh Lua, I was tinkering with that a bit when I tried to contribute to an open source project a while ago.

Anyway, enjoy your stroll through our ancient posts from 2015 and I'm looking forward to chatting with you!

Welcome! Hope to see you often yo katsu put a minimum character limit so I'm rambling a bit until I feel it's safe to post
