An overlocked 2600 isn’t a bad option, however there’s more cons towards the performance especially since a 2600x is only like 20-30 extra dollars for a 7% boost which is worth the percentage base. Add that to a 2600 not coming with its own heatsink and overclocking running the risk of shortening the lifespan (hence why majority of iverclocked equipment need liquid cooling) the 2600x is better for those that want the PC to require less risk and less work. But overclocking would give you a small base percentage over the 2600x which honestly isn’t worth it unless performance is what you’re aiming for. Which is kinda unnecessary seeing a Ryzen 2600x already runs most games at 1080 above 60fps at the ultra preset settings with the support of a GPU. That would go towards being overkill as well. Not to mentioned the extra wattage usage that could add up overtime by overclocking.
I am a digital hoarder so I will probably need then SSD. I will mainly use it as a drive for just my steam games as SSDs typically manage files much faster than that of a HDD which can even be seen while playing. Even now my 1TB HDD (which I will also add to the new PC) is about 400GB of videos I keep. My Hero, Avatar TLAB, and a lot of shows I kinda want to keep on file as it’s not uncommon for my family to have no television or internet for me to stream. This doubles for my game library as I have had over 600GB of games and mods at more than one point which I had to sacrifice for other things.
The old PC will be mainly scrapped for parts. The PSU is dying, the Mobo and CPU are ancient, the newest thing is the heatsink which I bought about 6 months ago, so I’ll keep that and see how it compares with the other. But majority will be junk as they mostly need to be replaced.
As for myself, I don’t care much about “quality” as I have been gaming at low and medium settings on games from 06-11 so I’m basically accustomed to playing at crap quality at low frames. So being able to play at Medium on Monster Hunter will be enough for me, but I also want the most for my money. I do think I will change the memory but for the mobo, I may stick with the one already listed as the junk between the two is about $50 just for self assurance as both basically meet majority of the sameness criterias.
With this being my “all-a-round” pc for my daily life, I want this build to at least last as long as my current one has (Had it prebuilt since 2013 and only replaced the heatsink last year) which makes durability and expectancy the most important thing to me. And quite honestly, this build feels like it’ll last a good while as I’m the type of person who is overcautious about cleaning, energy usage, and general care.
Thanks for the input though as I’m also kinda cheap and always looking to save money. I just wish I was able to see just how it would operate as it all works together, but I don’t know how well. Last thing I would want is for the new build to be running at 16% it’s normal speed thanks to a single piece having a fit with itself or the gpu slot just breaks off.
